Along with the adhesive and materials to be bonded, the decisive factor in bonding is reliable control of the processes. EN ISO 21368 „Adhesives – Guidelines for the fabrication of adhesively bonded structures“ and DIN 2304 „Adhesive bonding technology – Quality requirements for adhesive bonding processes – Part 1: Adhesive bonding process chain“ can be a decisive help here.
Both standards currently apply in a coexistence phase that ends on 31/08/2026. DIN 2304-1 will then be withdrawn.
The standards list all relevant process steps from development to production. They also include repairing bonded joints, providing information on storage and logistics and defining the requirements placed on personnel skills.
Unlike EN 17460 for railway vehicles, the two standards are not attached to the application sector. They are regarded, for instance, as the technical norm for automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, „white goods“ manufacturing, agricultural machinery and the construction industry. DIN 2304-2 Adhesive bonding technology – „Quality requirements for adhesive bonding processes – Part 2: Adhesive bonding in shipbuilding“ was developed for shipbuilding, the basic structure of which is associated with EN ISO 21368.
One of the two standards is to be bindingly implemented as the technical norm with both forming the basis of any criminal or contractual law proceedings. Compliance with the technology norm is a central aspect of German adjudication.

The certificate is listed in the respective online register (EN ISO 21368 (www.iso21368.com) or in DIN 2304 (www.din2304.de). This is also a vital marketing tool. Customers can use it in specifically selecting eligible subcontractors.
After successful certification and on request, your company can sport a „Certified Adhesive Bonding Specialist“ mark to be used in accordance with our marking rules.
