As an interdisciplinary joining technology, adhesive bonding places high demands on in-house managerial staff and requires extensive knowledge in the fields of chemistry, physics and engineering. The training to become an Adhesive Engineer brings these disciplines together and, after passing the exam, enables the European Adhesive Engineer (EAE) to take responsibility for all adhesive processes.

The course qualifies the individual to professionally assess all adhesive-related issues, from product development and the selection of suitable adhesives to designs suitable for adhesive bonding, production planning, quality assurance and cost accounting. Detailed practical exercises complement what has been learned in the classroom, leading to a deeper grasp of the materials.

Within eight weeks, the participants receive an intensive insight into the world of bonding and, after completing their training, will be able to:

  • Select suitable adhesives during product development
  • Create designs suitable for adhesive bonding and the associated production planning in a professional manner
  • Implement quality assurance and cost accounting as regards adhesive-related matters
  • Confront technical adhesive bonding issues with a professional assessment

Requirements

Course participants should have sufficient command of the language of instruction such that they can follow the lessons and take the technical exams. Admission to the exam requires a degree in engineering or natural sciences. Interested parties who do not meet this requirement can take part in the course as guest students.

Course content

The following content is taught in the eight-week course:

  • Introduction and basics of polymers
  • Adhesives
  • Joining part materials, adhesion
  • Pre-treatment of surfaces
  • Calculation and design
  • Process and manufacturing technology, occupational safety and environmental protection
  • Quality assurance, testing technology, artificial ageing
  • Case studies and examples of applications

Course organisation

The course content is taught using practical exercises in the adhesive technology laboratory, demonstrations and videos, presentations with discussions and course documentation.

The course is VAT-free. The detailed course documents, all consumables for the practical bonding exercises and drinks during breaks are included in the cost of the course.

The current course dates and costs for this course can be found on our date information sheet in the download area of this page.

Examination

The training concludes with a practical and theoretical examination before an independent examination committee of the DVS (the German Association for Welding and Allied Processes). After passing the exam, the participants receive a certificate that is valid throughout Europe and is recognised by the EWF (European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting).
